Newmont Mining Corporation has announced on Monday that a one-time special dividend of US$0.88 per share of common stock will be paid to Newmont shareholders, following the approval of its planned merger with Goldcorp.

The dividend is designed to create value to shareholders ahead of the planned joint venture with Barrick Gold for the companies’ operations in Nevada. The amount paid from the dividend will be dependant on the amount of stock a shareholder is currently holding, rather than the amount that they will have following the merger with Goldcorp.
