The newest iteration of Caterpillar’s 6030 hydraulic shovel was designed to be cleaner and more fuel efficient, thanks to a pair of Cat C27 diesel engines. They can be configured to meet the strictest standards for diesel emissions such as the United State’s Tier 4 and Europe’s Stage V standards. The updated shovel also includes Cat’s Product Link Elite, a collection of hardware, software and onboard controllers that relays machine health data to the mine’s operations centre using the Mine Star Health system. “The Product Link is exciting because it connects the legacy machines and makes them look like Cat machines,” said Caterpillar engineering manager Sean Johnson. The bucket has a 30 tonne payload capacity in the face shovel configuration and 31 tonnes for the backhoe option and matches with trucks with either 89-tonne or 132-tonne hauling capacity.
