The mining process can have a drastic effect on the surrounding landscape and ecosystem. In order to protect wildlife and mitigate environmental effects, various companies and institutions are using or working on innovations for safe and sustainable monitoring of different aspects of the environment, including groundwater sensors, wildlife habitat restoration models and even bioreactors for microbes.
