Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions recently unveiled its DD312i, an automated and compact single-boom jumbo underground drill. It is designed for use in face drilling, cross cutting, and bolting and is suitable for both development and production drilling across various mining methods, including room and pillar, cut and fill, stoping or caving. The compact drill is ideal for medium to large underground drifts. It features a carrier with canopy or cabin options for both seated and standing drilling, which prioritize noise reduction, clean air and visibility. The machine has a small cornering profile that enables it to effectively navigate tight spaces and is engineered to protect the operator from both rollovers and falling objects. According to the company, when combined with its scalable automation packages for drills, the machine improves drilling accuracy by up to 50 per cent, increases drilling coverage by 26 per cent and boosts productivity by 20 per cent.
