Schneider Electric’s new arc flash mitigation technology, ArcBlok, is designed to protect electrical workers and equipment against arc flash events in the workplace. Digital thermal sensors and ZigBee communicators for wireless networks enhance ArcBlok’s system’s visibility and allow for remote use, which Schneider Electric states will reduce the amount of personal protection equipment and administrative controls needed for the workplace. “The arc isolation module on the line side of the main breaker stretches, cools and extinguishes a line side arc through passive means,” a representative from Schneider Electric explained to CIM Magazine. “ArcBlok does not rely on the upstream overcurrent protection device.” ArcBlok is designed for Schneider Electric’s standard low-voltage motor control centers and requires no additional on-site equipment or components.
