Inmarsat Global has developed two new solutions, Tailings Insight Cloud and Tailings Insight Plus, to help companies capture data while auditing, monitoring and governing their tailings storage facilities. Tailings Insight Cloud compiles data from sources such as on-site sensors and satellite networks into a single dashboard, which can then be shared with operators, auditors and regulators in real-time. “What our system does is it takes all of [the] complexities away,” said Joe Carr, director of mining innovation and critical infrastructure at Inmarsat. “You can log in from anywhere in the world.... and see all of your tailings facilities, [so] you're not relying on manual reading [or] on someone in a helicopter.” The core application, Tailings Insight Cloud, allows the mining company to use existing sensors to integrate and streamline data at operational sites. Plus is a fully managed service (built upon the Cloud framework) which Immarsat uses to to monitor and manage the tailings facilities on behalf of the mining company.
