Caterpillar’s new two-piece bucket for backhoe applications has a durable upper structure and replaceable basket designed to reduce repair time and extend bucket capacity. The bucket’s upper structure can be fitted with several baskets which, according to Caterpillar, is easier and safer to repair compared to an entire bucket. “There are potential health and safety risks encountered when refurbishing buckets [and] the new bucket design mitigates or dramatically reduces these risks,” Andre Kindt, global marketing consultant for hydraulic mining shovels at Caterpillar, told CIM Magazine. “The single-piece basket design also eliminates hazards presented by stored energy, and [is] easier and faster to install.” The bucket can either replace an existing bucket or the replaceable basket can be retrofitted onto a replaceable onto an existing bucket.
