Companies that mine or explore in foreign jurisdictions are increasingly finding themselves at odds with their host nations

In an industry that regularly sees multi-million- and billion-dollar deals, a $2.3 million funding agreement for a mining company barely registers as news. That perspective shifts, however, when it turns out the money is not funding exploration or mine-expansion activities but is instead financing a legal action against a national government.
