Diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring element, a quality well suited for a myriad of heavy duty applications, but that same hardness makes them particularly difficult to shape to meet the requirements of a potential use. However, Sandvik Additive Manufacturing has created a workaround. In May the manufacturer announce it has created the first 3D printed diamond composite, which can be shaped as needed to fit specific dimensions and demands. By using 3D printing, Sandvik is able to create a diamond surface of almost any shape.
