Syncrude tests oil sands process water-treatment technology with multi-year pilot project

Researchers at Syncrude Canada believe that petroleum coke (a byproduct from bitumen upgrading) can be used to treat water from oil sands tailings ponds – also known as oil sands process water (OSPW) – working in a similar way to the activated charcoal in home water filtration systems.
