A simple, logical concept could cut a mine’s energy costs by more than half

In 2015, Newmont Goldcorp’s Éléonore gold mine in northern Quebec’s James Bay area began operations, boasting full Wi-Fi coverage and a leading-edge automated ventilation system. The system now counts 30 air quantity and quality ventilation monitoring stations, a mine-wide radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking system for vehicles and personnel underground and finally a VentSim Control system with VOD capabilities designed by Howden. Within two years, the mine reached payback on the system.
