In October 2014, David Cataford left his senior managerial position at Cliffs Natural Resources’ Bloom Lake iron ore deposit in Fermont, Quebec, to join Champion Iron, then a small iron ore exploration company (run by veteran mining entrepreneur Michael O’Keeffe), that was looking to develop a greenfield project in Labrador.
