Electron microscopy delivers deep look into New Afton operations

Jennifer Katchen, senior metallurgist at the New Afton mine, and Sarah Prout, metallurgy manager for SGS Canada’s Vancouver operations at MEMO 2019 where they explained how New Afton uses a scanning electron microscope to analyze ore samples.

Getting a view of the smallest details has allowed New Gold’s New Afton mine to get a deeper, broader understanding of its business and its resources. Key to getting that comprehensive picture was to start performing automated mineralogy with a scanning electron microscope.
